SPSAH was a performance art project attempting to add new historic landmarks to the landscape of the Steel Valley, (a community outside of Pittsburgh, PA, USA).
The artists Asa Sloss and Luqmon Abdus Salaam argued that if historic landmarks are part of the definition that defines a community and steel is no longer produced in the community, how can we create new "non-related" memorials or landmarks to the landscape?
A call for new landmarks was made and more than 75 were submitted. The artists created programs to celebrate the new landmark and intervene in a new language for the community. This project was supported by The Pittsburgh Foundation.
